In order to solve this problem, we evaluated 11 firms between April and September of 2026 across a series of weighted criteria to identify the best bug sweep companies that serve the LA market. The weights are broken down as follows:

1. Bugged

Bugged has focused on TSCM, bug sweeps, and counter surveillance since 1986, and its Los Angeles credentials start on Hollywood Boulevard. Founder Michael Peros worked the Henry C. Yuen "patent terrorist" case, a documented nation-state espionage matter tied to the TV Guide and Gemstar building, where surveillance devices planted on behalf of a foreign government were located and removed. Peros is an Israeli and American intelligence-trained counter surveillance specialist who studied under former CIA technical surveillance expert Glenn Whidden, has spoken at DEF CON on illegal wiretapping, and the firm reports that LA-area divorce and entertainment matters are among the most frequent surveillance cases it handles anywhere in the country.

For buyers, the practical advantage is range. Bugged's proprietary CyberBug TSCM service pairs a full physical sweep with mobile, network, and digital forensics, so a single engagement can cover a Brentwood residence, a Century City office, the family vehicles, a private jet at Van Nuys, and the phones and home network tying them together. Bugged was also the first company in the world to launch TSCM services on the World Wide Web. It goes further than network-only cyber sweeps, and the firm's newly introduced quantum AI entanglement eavesdropping detection targets threats most providers do not yet address. Its public review footprint is smaller than its 30,000-plus client base would suggest, largely because clients in this category rarely want their names attached to a review.

2. Murray Associates

Murray Associates is one of the longest-running independent TSCM consultancies in the United States, founded in 1978 by Kevin D. Murray, who previously directed electronic countermeasures internationally for Pinkerton's. The limitation for Los Angeles buyers is geography. Murray Associates is headquartered in the New York metropolitan area, so every LA engagement is a fly-in job, which can add lead time when a threat feels urgent. Its public documentation of landmark cases is also thinner than its tenure suggests, and there is no aggregated public review score to help first-time buyers compare it against local options.

3. ComSec LLC

ComSec is a Virginia Beach TSCM firm founded in 2007 by J.D. LeaSure, whom the company credits with pioneering the discipline it calls Cyber TSCM: detecting eavesdropping devices that push data out over Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or cellular networks. The firm maintains a Los Angeles field office downtown, says it can typically be onsite within 24 to 72 hours of a finalized quote, and does not charge extra for evening or weekend work. It also designs and sells its own TSCM equipment, including IMSI catcher detectors, which gives it a strong technical bench.

Where ComSec falls short is public credibility at the case level. Its published finds, such as GSM bugs in executive offices and laser microphones aimed at boardrooms, are described anonymously, and the firm has no marquee cases on the public record. Its founding date also makes it one of the younger firms on this list, and its review presence is limited to a BBB grade rather than a star average buyers can compare.

4. LaSorsa & Associates

LaSorsa & Associates was founded by Joseph A. LaSorsa, a former U.S. Secret Service agent who served on the Presidential Protection Detail, and it brings that federal protective discipline to every engagement. The firm has technicians based in Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Francisco, offers free and discreet initial consultations, and has been featured on CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News. It also trains other security professionals in TSCM, which speaks to the rigor of its internal standards.

Bug sweeps are one line of business inside a much larger executive protection, training, and investigations company, so buyers are not getting a dedicated counter surveillance specialist in the way they would with a TSCM-only firm. The company is headquartered in North Carolina, publishes no pricing guidance, and has no aggregated public review score specific to its sweep work.

5. USPA Nationwide Security

USPA Nationwide Security, founded in New York in 2005, is one of the largest protective services firms on this list, with a reported network of more than 5,000 contractors and a 24/7 operations center. The company's core business is guard services, fire watch, and executive protection, so TSCM is a specialty offering rather than its primary focus. Its 4.9 rating reflects the company as a whole rather than sweep work specifically, pricing is quote-only, and there is little public documentation of specific surveillance devices it has located.

6. LA Intelligence

LA Intelligence is a Beverly Hills private investigation firm with two Wilshire Boulevard offices and one of the strongest review profiles in Los Angeles: a 5.0 rating across more than 230 Yelp reviews. Its investigators include personnel with prior U.S. government, federal law enforcement, and intelligence backgrounds, and its sweep clients include celebrities, politicians, and high-net-worth families who expect fast, discreet service close to home.

Bug sweeps are one of more than a dozen services here, alongside infidelity surveillance, process service, and missing persons work, and most of the firm's glowing reviews relate to general investigations rather than TSCM. It operates under its current name only since 2011, publishes no pricing, and has little public record of landmark counter surveillance cases.

7. Empire Pacific Investigative Services

Empire Pacific Investigative Services (EPIS) was established in 1993 by three retired U.S. federal special agents and operates from West Hollywood, a short drive from Beverly Hills, Hollywood, and Century City. Its TSCM approach goes beyond one-time sweeps to include in-place monitoring systems, wireless intrusion detection, and randomly scheduled follow-up sweeps, which suits clients who need ongoing protection. Its average review score of 4.6 across Yelp, Birdeye, and other platforms reflects a long record of satisfied clients.

EPIS is a general investigations firm first, and its TSCM page is one of many service lines. It lists no awards or published credentials specific to counter surveillance, provides no pricing guidance, and serves the LA metro rather than offering broader deployment for clients with homes or offices in other states.

Sunset Blvd. Investigations is a downtown Los Angeles firm co-founded by Steve Polak and Randy Petee, retired detectives from the LAPD and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Its TSCM work is handled by an in-house specialist with more than 35 years of counter surveillance experience, and the founders personally work cases rather than delegating them. The firm holds a 5.0 rating across its aggregated reviews and has a reputation among LA attorneys for responsiveness.

This is a small boutique with a handful of staff and weekday office hours, which limits how quickly it can mobilize for after-hours emergencies or multi-site engagements. It serves Los Angeles and Orange County rather than following clients nationally, and its public record centers on general investigations rather than documented counter surveillance finds.

9. West Coast Bug Sweep

West Coast Bug Sweep is a state-licensed private investigation agency (PI# 27041) that focuses exclusively on TSCM, a meaningful distinction in a market full of generalists. Led by president Reymundo "Ernie" Mireles, the team offers residential, business, and vehicle bug sweeps along with cyber sweeps for compromised Wi-Fi. Every inspection ends with documented findings clients can take to an attorney or the police.

The firm is regional, covering Los Angeles, Orange, San Diego, Riverside, and Ventura counties from an Inland Empire base, and cannot follow clients to properties elsewhere.
