How to Avoid Getting Bugged in the Office

Bugged Banner 9- 1600x660Bugs, these tiny treacherous electronic devices, may infest your office or even your home. Just like living bugs, these devices can hide in the corners of your room. With bugs around you, you could spill precious information to others. Your ideas can be stolen. Your intellectual property can be robbed. And worse, they can be used against you. And you don’t want that to happen. So, what are the measures you’ll need to take to keep your privacy private? Here are a few practical tips from security professionals:

  1. Watch out for people who need valuable and confidential information at work. If you sense that some employees and competitors have somehow obtained knowledge regarding matters which are confidential, think about the different ways they could have gotten the information they have.
  2. Aside from regular colleagues and rivals, also watch out for unfamiliar faces visiting your office from time to time. Be especially wary of people claiming to be technicians, inspectors, exterminators and the like. By disguising themselves into these helpful workers, buggers can install their devices just right where they need these devices to be.
  3. Things that are sent into your office could have already been bugged outside. So, it would actually be good for your security and privacy to be suspicious of people’s gifts which are sent to your office.
  4. When putting something new into a room where confidential matters are usually discussed, make sure that you get those items checked by technical experts. People who send you gifts, or even those who look like legit salesmen might have malicious motives in helping you acquire new stuff for your office.
  5. Be wary of vehicles such as panel trucks and vans that seem to loiter around your building for a few hours. Also watch out for those vehicles that repeatedly appear in the area. Someone might be inside the truck, monitoring your conversations using the listening devices they’ve implanted in your room.
  6. You could definitely prevent bugs from getting inside your office. But what if some bugs are already present in your area? Consider getting some professional help in detecting and sweeping bugs from your place. Even if your place looks perfectly “bugfree” and in order, hidden cameras and listening devices might just be lurking in most dangerous places.
  7. Master every little detail in your room including the exact positions of your light fixtures, exit signs and decorative items. Watch out for even the tiniest holes and the slightest changes of your things’ positions and locations.
  8. Sharpen your senses in finding any sign of intrusion. Always examine your room for suspicious objects and listen for unusual clicks and other noises in your phone. If you have a radio or a television, you might experience interferences in the signal once there are transmitters present nearby. If the noise from the interference gets louder as you move your radio around the room, it might be because there is a listening device sending signals right inside your room.

If your job constantly involves confidential information or if you feel like your competitors have an access to secret information, you should definitely get a specialist to sweep bugs off your place.
